The sofa cleaning cost calculator estimates what a professional upholstery cleaning costs for a sofa, loveseat, sectional or chairs. You enter how many pieces you have, choose whether to add a fabric protector, and pick a state. The result is a price range, not a quote. The tool is free and runs in your browser. It needs no account or sign-up, and nothing you type is uploaded.
Upholstery cleaning prices depend on the type of piece, where you live and whether you add a protector. The calculator shows each of those parts separately, so you can see which one moves the total. Use the range to judge a cleaner’s price before you book, whether you are cleaning one couch or a full living room set. Enter your pieces first, then adjust the state and protector to see how far the estimate moves.

How to use the Sofa Cleaning Cost Calculator
- Enter the number of Sofas. The default is 1.
- Enter the number of Loveseats.
- Enter the number of Sectionals.
- Enter the number of Chairs (a count).
- Turn on the Fabric protector box if you want protector included in the estimate.
- Open the State menu and pick “US average,” or any of the 50 states or DC.
- Read the estimated price range. Change one control at a time to see how each piece and option affects the total.
Read the two ends of the range as a low and a high estimate. The low figure uses the low end of each piece’s price, and the high figure uses the high end. A cleaner’s actual price is likely to fall between them.
To see how the total builds, start with one sofa in the US average setting. The range is $80 to $135. Then add two chairs and turn on the protector, and the range becomes $180 to $280. Each change adds a visible amount, so you can tell which item drives the price.
Use the Copy link button to share the exact estimate or bookmark it. Use the Print button to print the result. Phones work the same way. Wide tables scroll sideways inside their box, so swipe inside the table rather than the page.
How much does it cost to clean a sofa?
On Thumbtack’s public cost guide, “Upholstery cleaning prices” (updated Mar 31, 2026), a typical upholstery job runs from $138 to $247, and most pay about $184. Those figures come from jobs and quotes on that platform, and the guide’s full range runs from $91 to $382. For one sofa in the US average setting, this calculator shows $80 to $135.
Compare the two numbers with care. The guide reports whole jobs on its platform, while the calculator prices the pieces you enter. Use the guide as a sense of the market and the calculator as a check on the pieces in your own room.
How much is upholstery cleaning per piece?
The tool prices each piece as a range between two city examples: a sofa at $80 to $135, a loveseat at $60 to $95, a chair at $40 to $55, and a sectional at $190. It adds up the low and high ends for your pieces, then adjusts the total for the state you pick. The sectional figure is based on a 10-foot sectional in one company example, so a larger or smaller sectional may cost more or less.
The state adjustment uses the state median wage for cleaners from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (OEWS, May 2025), divided by the national median of $17.07 per hour for maids and housekeeping cleaners. California’s median of $20.51 gives a ratio of about 1.20, so prices rise. Texas’s median of $14.26 gives about 0.84, so prices fall. For specialty services, only the labor share of the price moves with wages. The tool assumes labor is 60% of that price.
Does fabric protector cost extra?
Yes. The protective solution costs $20 to $35 in the company examples on Thumbtack’s guide. The tool adds that amount once to your total, not once per piece. For example, one sofa, two chairs and a protector come to $180 to $280 in the US average setting.
Do leather and delicate fabrics cost more?
Yes. The Thumbtack guide says delicate fabrics, antiques, suede and leather cost more than standard upholstery, but it does not give a specific figure. The calculator has no control for fabric type, so its range does not include an extra charge for these materials. Ask the cleaner for a price on your specific fabric.
How often should a couch be cleaned?
No single schedule fits every home, so the answer depends on how the couch is used. Clean it when stains, odors or visible dirt build up, or when regular vacuuming and spot cleaning no longer keep it fresh. Households with pets, children, or frequent eating on the couch usually need cleaning sooner than others.
Frequently asked questions
Is the result a real quote?
No. The result is an estimate based on public price examples and state wage data. Ask a cleaner for a written price before you book, and compare it with the range. A written quote should name the pieces and any fabric protector, so you can check it against the calculator line by line.
Is anything I type uploaded?
No. The tool runs in your browser, and nothing you type is uploaded.
Why do I see a range instead of one price?
Each piece is priced between two examples, so the tool shows a low and a high total. The low total uses the low end for every piece, and the high total uses the high end. Your actual price is likely to fall somewhere in between. If a cleaner quotes a price far outside the range, ask what is included, such as the number of pieces, the protector, or a special fabric.
Can I save my estimate?
Not yet. Saving estimates is coming soon. For now, use Print to keep a paper copy, or Copy link to keep the exact settings.
How do I count my pieces?
Count each sofa and each loveseat as one piece. Enter sectionals in the Sectionals box as one piece each, and enter each chair as one in the Chairs count.
Does the fabric protector apply to every piece?
No. Turn on the Fabric protector box to add it. The tool adds the protector cost once to the total, not once per piece.
