The window cleaning cost calculator estimates what a window cleaning job is likely to cost. You enter how many windows you have, choose whether the outside only or both sides are cleaned, pick your state, and decide whether the tracks are included. The national figures come from Thumbtack’s public cost guide, which puts typical US prices at $184 to $387, with most people paying about $266. The tool is free, runs in your browser, and needs no account or sign-up. Use it to set a budget before you request quotes, or to check whether a quote you already have looks reasonable. The result is an estimate, not a local quote, so the company’s written price is the one you will pay.

Each choice you make changes the range, so the tool shows how the price moves rather than giving one number.

How to use the Window Cleaning Cost Calculator

  1. Enter the number of windows in the Windows box. A double-hung window counts as one.
  2. Choose your location from the State menu. Pick US average if you are not sure.
  3. Under Which sides, choose Inside and outside or Outside only.
  4. Tick Clean the tracks too (about $1 per window) if the tracks need cleaning.
  5. Read the price range and the price per window at the top of the result.

Below the range, the receipt lists the national figures the estimate is built on. The table shows Thumbtack’s price ranges by window count, so you can see which band your number of windows falls into.

The calculator starts with 15 windows cleaned on both sides. Replace those numbers with your own counts before you read the result as your estimate.

Settings are saved in the page address. Select Copy link to share the exact estimate with someone else or to bookmark it for later. Select Print to print the result. On a phone, wide tables scroll sideways inside their own box. Saving estimates is not available yet; a note under the tool says it is coming soon.

When a company quotes per window, divide its total by your window count and compare the result with the price per window on the calculator. That keeps the comparison on the same basis as the estimate.

How much does window cleaning cost per window?

Per-window prices vary by company and by window type. Thumbtack’s guide gives examples of $4 per window in Salt Lake City, which is $3 for outside and $1 for inside, $6 to $7 per window in Dallas, and $9 to $11 for French windows. Track cleaning adds $1 or more per window.

The calculator does not use one flat rate. It estimates the total from Thumbtack’s ranges by window count: $99 to $194 for 1 to 5 windows, $127 to $249 for 6 to 10, $168 to $330 for 11 to 15, and $187 to $368 for 16 to 20. Counts in between are interpolated, and counts above 20 continue the 16 to 20 trend. The price per window falls as the count rises, because a visit has costs that do not grow with each extra window. For example, 15 windows at the US average come to $175 to $345, or about $12 to $23 per window. For 28 windows, the range is $225 to $445, or about $8 to $16 per window.

Is inside and outside window cleaning priced differently?

Yes. In the calculator, an outside-only job is priced at 75% of the inside-and-outside price. That factor comes from the Salt Lake City example, where outside cleaning was $3 of the $4 total. For 15 windows at the US average, outside only comes to $131 to $259, compared with $175 to $345 for both sides.

The track box works on its own line. Ticking it adds about $1 per window, so by the box’s own figure, 15 windows add about $15. Because the track charge is a separate line, you can compare two quotes by checking whether each one includes tracks.

How does my state change the window cleaning estimate?

The State menu scales the estimate by the state’s median cleaner wage from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics for May 2025, divided by the national median of $17.07 per hour. For specialty services, the tool assumes 60% of the price is labor, and only that share moves with wages. California’s median of $20.51 pushes estimates up, and Texas’s median of $14.26 pulls them down. Treat these figures as a rough guide, not a local price.

Frequently asked questions

How much do window cleaners charge per hour?

Thumbtack’s guide reports an average of $50 per hour, with a low of $25 and a high of $100. Hourly rates depend on the company, the region, and how difficult the job is. Ask whether a quote is by the window or by the hour, because the two methods can give different totals for the same house.

Do window cleaners charge extra for screens and tracks?

Tracks are a separate option in the calculator, and ticking the box adds the track charge to the estimate. The source data does not cover screens, so the tool does not price them. Ask each company whether tracks and screens are in its price, and get the answer in writing.

How often should windows be cleaned?

There is no single schedule that suits every home. Windows near trees, busy roads, or building work collect more dust and debris, so they may need a visit more often. Check the glass after a season of rain or dust to decide when the next visit is due.

Why might my quote be different from the estimate?

The calculator gives a range based on national data and your state’s wages. A company’s quote depends on its own pricing, the condition of your glass, and how hard the windows are to reach. Use the estimate to compare quotes, not to replace them.

Is anything I enter sent anywhere?

No. The calculator runs in your browser, and nothing you type is uploaded. The only thing kept is what appears in the page address, which is how the Copy link button works.
